It's clear to me that as long as my house is for sale and time is spent waiting (and waiting) for that one person or family that decides our house is a fit for them, it's going to be hard to cook anything. Sure as I get a bunch of ingredients out, I'll get that call that says..."an agent would like to see the house in 15 minutes"...not conducive to my kind of cooking...messy...I mean really messy. So, I have decided to use this "break from cooking" to work on my photography. Lord knows, I have plenty to work on.
I think I mentioned we got a new kitten...Lucy is her name. So here's picture...key to taking a picture of Lucy is to make sure the flash doesn't go off, otherwise her eyes would be shut. All I can say is this...she's a pill. Her name in the shelter was "Pig Pen", at first it didn't seem fitting, but there are times, like when I figured out she was sleeping - yep, sleeping, in her litter box..that made it clear why the they called her Pig Pen. Lately, we have been referring to Lucy as the "Hamburgler"...remember that little character from McDonald's..google it...you'll see the resemblance!
Here's the "hamburgler" in action!! So far her "thievery" has been focused on the dog's food.
OK, I have been waiting for the day we finally felt like it was "time" to list our house. Several things needed to happen to be "ready" and yesterday was finally it. Now in the 2 weeks since we made the decision to pick up and go, we have scrubbed floors, wiped walls, cleaned closets and drawers (strangers WILL be looking), we took down wall paper, textured and painted walls and I have parted with all kinds of "stuff". In the nearly 24 years Bubba and I have been married we have moved from CO to Hawaii to Central Calif to Southern Calif to North Texas and now back to CO. You'd think I know a little about the process, but guess what...if I did know something about it, I apparently just completely blocked it from my memory. I suspect that after each move was over and we were completely exhausted, we wanted to say something like "never again" and put the memory of the whole thing out of our mind's. Truthfully though, going back to Colorado was always a dream, so I guess we just blocked the nightmare of moving from our memory because we always knew we wanted to be somewhere else. Good thing, because if I HAD remembered what a pain moving is, we might not have chased our dream. So, the place is listed and now we wait. I have kept all my grandma's recipe boxes nearby, hoping that I will have some time to make something, anything. Maybe I can find something that will leave my kitchen with the sweet aroma of one of my grandma's favorites...maybe it will "hypnotize" a buyer into wanting my house immediately, so hypnotized they insist on paying more than what we are asking (OK - I need to wake up, but it was going to be a great story, don't you think?)
One of the things I know my Grandma believed in was following your dreams. As a first grade teacher I know she encouraged "her" kids everyday to do just that. For a long time, Bubba and I have dreamed of living in Colorado and we are in the process of fulfilling that dream. Of course, that means a lot of time and energy focused on preparing our house to go on the market, selling it, finding a new house and moving. Sounds like an easy 4 step process and I am going to convince myself that it IS that easy. In the meantime I am struggling to find time to cook let alone decipher my grandma's recipes so I am going to be taking a short break...I hope to post in a couple of weeks!
Take Care!!! And wish us some luck as we fulfill our dream!
A while ago I inherited my grandma's recipe boxes, in fact 7 of them and for quite some time I have been wondering what to do with all those recipes. Well, I finally figured it out, I am going to cook my way through those boxes, I'll share the recipes and pictures of the food I cook with you. Along the way we'll laugh a little, remember a few things from our past and I hope some of the aromas from my kitchen make their way to heaven and make my grandma smile. This is going to be fun and I'm looking forward to sharing it all with you!
